He was invited to participate in the " Common Ground World Project" organised by the International Academy of Ceramics and the United Nation Department of Economic and Social Affairs and selected to participate in the International Ceramic Workshop in Jingdezhen (China's renowned ceramic production area where most of the Emperor's ceramic origin since the Ming Dynasty), People's Republic of China in 1993and IWCAT in Tokoname, Japan in 2001. From the year 2002, Hua Choon has been invited as artist-in-residency in Chinese Taipei, Shigaraki in Japan, and Shiwan in People's Republic of China.

His works have won him numerous awards, such as the Selected Award from the ceramic competition organised by JiangXi Research Institute of Ceramics in 1994 and the Asian Artist Freeman Foundation Award by the Vermount Studio Centre of the United State of America in 2003.

Hua Choon's ceramic and sculptural works has been selected to exhibit in numerous local and international exhibitions including but not limited to Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Taiwan and the People's Republic of China.
